Spring Plant Sale

Friday May 7 thru Sunday May 16; weekdays 2 p.m.- 7 p.m.; weekends 10 a.m.- 5 p.m.

Discover Old Minnesota during the 7th annual Birch Island Woods Plant sale at the Picha Heritage Farm next to the woods. The benefit sale features near wholesale prices for high quality and award winning annuals, perennials, veggies, roses and Minnesota-hardy shrubs and trees. Master gardeners are on hand daily to answer growing questions. Beekeepers and buckthorn crafter visit on weekends.

Special Features: The Picha Purple Morning Glory and the TP-14 Tomato developed by the Picha family are exclusive to the sale. Featured this year are Grasses and Grass-like Plants, as well as Fanfare spreading Impatiens

Proceeds from the Birch Island Woods Plant Sale go to conservation, education and restoration projects in the Birch Island Woods Area.

Master Gardeners (from the Eden Prairie Office of he U of MN Extension Service) are on hand each day to answer your growing and gardening questions.

BEEKEEPER
Demonstrations and tastings by Dewey Hassig
Sunday May 11th and Sunday May 18th , 10 a.m. through the early afternoon

Beekeeper Dewey Hassig will be on hand to answer questions about attracting honey bees to your garden and to provide samples of his made-in-Minnetonka honey; some of which may be for sale.

USING CUT BUCKTHORN IN YOUR GARDEN
Demonstrations by Dan Saufferer
Saturday May 10, 11 a.m. & Saturday May 17, 11 a.m.

When Dan Saufferer sees a thicket of buckthorn, he sees a harmful shrub tree that should be removed. But Dan also sees raw materials to accent the yard and garden. Dan will be demonstrating how to craft, buckthorn trunks, stems and branches into tomato boxes and rustic trellises, arbors, birdhouse and feeder stands and garden gate arches. Dan’s motto: “Buckthorn: Re-think, Re-use, Re-new.”

Tip sheets on controlling these two invasive plants are available throughout the sale. Occasionally, buck busting experts show up to answer questions.
